Ok students, todays lesson is regarding sprays.
Now, I'm not going to go into the history about sprays, since I don't know where they started. You could argue about how they started in Lascaux and Altamira (caves where the earliest prehistoric art is found), but that is a completely different topic.
I'm here to tell you what you need to know to get what spray you want for CS and/or DoD, and how to get it to work right.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
To make one, you will need a few things first: (I've mentioned these before, but it always helps to mention them in another topic)
1) The picture you want to use
2) A photo editing program (any will do, but even Paint can work if needed)
3) A converter program (HLC will do, but you need Half Life installed to get it to work, but there are others out there)
4) And, well.....the game you want the spray for
To make it, take the picture you want (say for instance, the KHH banner at the top of the page) and put it in your editor if needed. Add, take away, etc. from the picture until it is just the way you want it in game (the less details, the bigger the spray can be in game). Take it into the converter, and get it sized to whatever size the game can handle and/or how big you want it. Once you have that all ready, create the files as a .wad (HLSW already has it go to a .wad file without any extra work). You need 2 copies with different names.
1) pldecal.wad
2) tempdecal.wad
Once your spray is made into .wad files, put them into the directory
C:/Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/[Steam name]/Counter Strike/cstrike
Once the files are put in there, select them (selecting both at the same time is faster) and make them "read only" (which means, right click on them, hit "properties", and check the "read only" check box)
Now before you take it in game, delete one file in the cstrike directory: custom.hpk (I will get into details about that in the next part) Now your spray should work in game. One last word of advice, take both of the files, and put them in a compressed folder to save them for later, and make it easy to give to others (select both files, right click, highlight "send to...", then choose "compressed folder")
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Ok, now if you are having problems seeing sprays, here is the reason. Remember that custom.hpk file I told you about. That stores every custom spray that someone sprays. The problem is is that it has a maximum size. Which means, once the file is filled, it will start putting in other people's sprays where your spray would be (or vice versa). Why do I know that so well.....because my spray is usually bumped for someone's pornographic spray, and that really pisses me off. Just make sure to watch and make sure to delete that file every once in a while and you shouldn't have to worry about that problem.

If your spray keeps getting changed while you are in game, then the problem is simple. Go back, put in the .wad files again, and make sure that you make them "read only" before you walk back in game. Why it does this you may ask. Well, when a file is "read only", no programs can change what has already been written into that file. CS likes to put one of its stupid lambda's or smiley faces in where your blood soaked warrior would normally stand when your file is not a read only file. Make it read only, and your warrior, or whatever you choose as a spray, will keep being there.

Now if you all listen to what I have said, you don't have to worry at all about your spray or anyone else's going wrong. Class Dissmissed.
