Ok students, todays lesson is over recording
Now wether the recording is to help keep the server clean, or just to rub in someone's face how you owned a whole team with just a usp (I still regret not recording that part during that scrim...), making a demo is the only true way to prove what happened
To start a recording, go into the console (that's when you press the "~" button, or whatever its assigned to on your computer), and type
record [file name] (and use "[file name]" for names with spaces)
this begins the recording. Go on with business as usual. Once you are ready to stop the recording (or if the map changes, stop it then too since recordings can screw up during a map change), type "stop" into the console to end recording.
Now that you have it, you will probably want to find out where it is and how to play it. To find it, it will be in your cstrike folder under
[file name].dem
Now, how to play a demo. Unfortunately, there are two ways to watch a recording.
1) go into CS, into console and type "play [file name]" into the console
or
2) download a program that is made to watch demos (i dont know of names of progs off hand, but they are out there if you look)
To play the demo out of CS, make sure the demo is in your cstrike folder ( c:/program files/steam/steamapps/[name]/counter-strike/cstrike). Go into CS, but not in a server, only open the game. Open the console and type "play [demo name]". This will go through a connection thing like you were connecting to a server, but it is just loading the specs of the demo. The demo will start at the point it started and ran from there. Anything that the person taking the demo did, you will do. Watch and enjoy. If you need to stop the demo at any time, open the console and type "stop".
As for the 3rd party prog, I believe the file can be anywhere. Read the readme or help file to find out where the file can or needs to be.
And realize this, in the recording, if your spec screen is the map, then that is what will be in the recording. If your in game and you turn left, than the recording will show you turning left. The point I'm trying to make is that you have NO CONTROL of what happens while you are watching in a recording (that means, if you want to watch someone else, too bad). If you are recording to observe someone's behavior, make sure that the camera stays on them or you will not be able to watch them when your doing playback.
That being said, have fun and make sure that your recordings turn out how you want them. Class Dismissed
